March 27: in the North Sea oil platform collapses Norwegian Alexander Kielland, 123 persons dying of its crew of 212 people

December 8: New York, John Lennon (member of British rock group The Beatles) is assassinated by Mark David Chapman, a mentally disturbed who wanted to become a musician.

1981
April 1: U.S. launching the first mission of a space shuttle.

February 23 in Spain, members of the Civil Guard in front of lieutenant colonel Antonio Tejero Molina, entering the Congress of Deputies shot and interrupt the meeting, while it was conducting the vote for president to appoint Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo.
